Asa Griggs Candler is an American business tycoon who in 1888 bought the recipe for Coca-Cola for US $ 1,750 from chemist John Stith Pemberton in Atlanta, Georgia. Candler founded the Coca-Cola Company in 1892 and developed it as a large corporation. Notable among Atlanta's civilian rulers, Candler was elected and served as the city's 41st mayor, between 1916 and 1919. Candler Field, the site of today's Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, is named after him, as does Candler Park in Atlanta. As the head of Coca-Cola, he built the Candler Building in Atlanta, as well as one in Kansas City, a Candler Building, and one in what is today known as the Inner Harbor area of Baltimore, Maryland.
